John W. Thompson (2009)

John W. Thompson (born April 24, 1949 in Fort Dix , New Jersey ) is an American manager .

He is CEO of Virtual Instruments and Chairman of the Board of Directors (dt. About Board ) from Microsoft . Thompson is a former vice chairman of the board of directors of IBM and a former CEO of Symantec .

education

Thompson attended John F. Kennedy High School (now Suncoast Community High School ) in Riviera Beach , Florida . In 1971 he received a BBA from Florida A&M University and an MBA in the Sloan Fellows program of the MIT Sloan School of Management in 1983 .

In 2008, Thompson supported Barack Obama's presidential candidacy . In 2010/11 he was a member of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission at the suggestion of Nancy Pelosi .

Sports

In 2005, Thompson and three entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley acquired a 20 percent stake in the California NBA team Golden State Warriors through the Bay Area Basketball Partners LLC , which was founded for this purpose .
