Bernd Goebel

Bernd Goebel (born December 31, 1967 in Fulda ) is a German philosopher , historian , theologian and author .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1986 , he studied philosophy , Catholic theology , history and religious studies in Fulda , at the University of Würzburg , Oxford University and the University of Bonn as well as at the École Normale Supérieure in Fontenay-St. Cloud near Paris . In 1992 he obtained a diploma in theology, in 1993 a Magister Artium in philosophy and in 1994 a Diplôme d'Études Approfondies in anthropology and the history of religion .

His doctorate as Dr. phil. took place in 1999 at the University of Bonn in cooperation with the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) in Paris with the work Rectitudo: Truth and Freedom with Anselm von Canterbury; a philosophical examination of his approach . He then worked until 2002 as a scientific assistant to Vittorio Hösle and Gerhard Kruip at the Research Institute for Philosophy in Hanover . He held teaching positions at the Catholic University of Lille , the University of Hildesheim and the Faculty of Theology in Fulda and was visiting professor of philosophy at EPHE in Paris in 2001 and at the University of Notre Dame from 2002 to 2003 . In Notre Dame he was also a Fellow of the Erasmus Institute.

In 2003 Goebel accepted a call to the Fulda Theological Faculty where he held the chair for philosophy and the history of philosophy. In 2007 he was a visiting fellow at Magdalen College , Oxford, and in 2008 a fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study at the University of Durham . In 2012 he was appointed visiting professor at EPHE. In 2017 he was a visiting fellow at St Catherine's College, Oxford. He is a board member of the International Association for Anselm Studies and the Board of Trustees of the Anselm von Canterbury Foundation Beuron and co-editor of Anselm Studies and Texts.
