Life

Di Blasi first studied economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . He switched to German studies and philosophy and graduated from Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler with a thesis on Rudolf Steiner's Mystery Dramas at the University of Vienna in 1994 with a master's degree.

Peter Sloterdijk 's Heidegger, Nietzsche and Gnosis seminars in the act hall of the Vienna Academy of the Arts stimulated his interest in mysticism and gnosis as well as the border area between philosophy and religion. In 1995 Di Blasi received a scholarship at the Research Institute for Philosophy in Hanover and was a research assistant to Peter Koslowski and Vittorio Hösle . He was significantly involved in the implementation of a project "for a sustainable relationship with the environment" within the framework of the Expo 2000 in Hanover. In 2001 he received his doctorate at the Catholic University of Eichstätt , the doctoral thesis Der Geist in der Revolte. Gnosticism and its return in postmodernism was published a year later by Fink-Verlag. He completed his habilitation in 2015 at the University of Bern. In 2018 he was appointed associate professor.

Di Blasi is married to the cultural journalist Johanna Di Blasi and lives in Berlin and Bern .

research

From 2003-2006 he was a post-doctoral student on the project “Mysticism and Modernity” at the University of Siegen and was in charge of the topic “Cybermystic”, which dealt with the mystical and gnostic dimensions of the cybernetization of the world and trans- and posthumanist visions. At the same time he was a lecturer in philosophy at the University of Flensburg . At the beginning of 2007 he became the academic assistant to the director Christoph Holzhey at the private research and cultural institution Institute of Cultural Inquiry Berlin and was involved in the development of this institute. He teaches philosophy at the Theological Faculty of the University of Bern .

Journalistic

Di Blasi has been a journalist since the late 1990s. Contributions can be found a. for specialist journals ("General Journal for Philosophy", "German Journal for Philosophy", "Yearbook for Philosophy of the Research Institute for Philosophy Hanover", "Journal for Politics"), cultural journals ("Merkur. German Journal for European Thought", "Sinn und Form ”,“ Lettre International ”) and weekly and daily newspapers (DIE ZEIT, NZZ, SZ, HAZ etc.). His main concern is to explore the question of the decentralization of the West in relation to the question of the secular or secular-Christian self-image.

Among other things, he addressed questions of civil religion in Europe. In his article "Al-Qaida made the best videos" for ZEIT, he examined parallels in the self-image of the avant-garde and terrorism. With reference to Boris Groys , he calls terrorists prevented artists who, like the anarchists of Pyotr Kropotkin's time and the historical avant-gardists, fought for media attention. As early as 1939, however, the art critic Clement Greenberg had characterized the pursuit of great effects as kitsch under the motto Avantgarde and Kitsch .

His book The White Man. An anti-manifesto was awarded the GfM Best Publication Award Gender & Media 2014 in October 2014 .
