The large hair-footed, narrow-foot pouch mouse ( Sminthopsis hirtipes ) is a species of marsupial from the genus of narrow-foot pouch mice that occurs in Australia .
description
This predator has silver hair on the soles of the hind feet. The species resembles its relative Sminthopsis ooldea with the yellow-brown back fur and the white peritoneum . The total body length is 147 to 180 mm, of which 75 to 95 mm is attributable to the tail. The ear length is 15 mm. The weight varies between 13 and 19 g. The tail is thin and pale pink and may be thicker at the base.
distribution and habitat
The species inhabits three regions: the area around Monkey Mia Bay in Western Australia , an area in the border area of South Australia , Western Australia and Northern Territory and a small area in the border area of Northern Territory and Queensland , 100 km north of the border with South Australia.
The habitat includes arid and semi-arid woodlands, heathlands and grasslands.
behavior
S. hirtipes lives in burrows dug by spiders , ants or other species. Not much is known about reproduction. The newborns are in the pouch by October and develop by the end of April.

The diet consists of small reptiles and arthropods .
threat
The species is not considered to be threatened. The IUCN lists them as (= least concern - not endangered).
