Smoke-A-Lot Records is a label that was founded in 1998 by US rapper Yukmouth . Yukmouth, one half of the successful hip-hop duo The Luniz , is not only the founder, but also the owner, CEO and franchise artist of the label.

history

In the early 1990s, Bay Area rapper Yukmouth founded the hip-hop duo The Luniz together with Numskull aka Drink-A-Lot, who achieved a worldwide smash hit in 1995 with the song I Got 5 on It . With increasing popularity and serious differences arising, both between label and band as well as between members Yukmouth and Numskull, the ways parted, not least because his partner Numskull got some problems with the law and therefore the development of hip hop - had to follow the scene from prison. Meanwhile, Yuk began working as a solo artist with the Houston, Texas-based label Rap-A-Lot Records .

Through his numerous solo publications and well-known collaborations with, among others, Master P , Scarface and Tupac Shakur , he developed into a widely respected solo artist. Those in charge of Rap-A-Lot Records saw themselves in an unfavorable position in terms of contract extension and therefore offered him a contract which guaranteed Yuk his own label with distribution through Rap-A-Lot Records.

In 1998 Yukmouth founded his own label with the release of his compilation "United Ghettos of America Vol. 1" and baptized it with the name Smoke-A-Lot Records. He derived the name for this label from his alias Smoke-A-Lot. The label's releases have since been distributed by Rap-A-Lot Records. The label has since been home to long-established hip-hop acts such as The Luniz, Dru Down, Thug Lordz (Yukmouth & C-Bo ), The Regime and of course Yukmouth. Over time, aspiring newcomers such as Ampichino, Nyce, Young Dru and Marc Shyst joined the roster, as did the former DJ from Cali Untouchable: DJ Fingaz.

Smoke-A-Lot Records is also a parent label for Godzilla Entertainment . For Godzilla Entertainment they mainly take over the distribution of the Mixtape releases.

Godzilla Entertainment

Smoke-A-Lot Records produces and sells its own mixtapes, but not through its own label, but through a sub-label specially set up for this purpose called Godzilla Entertainment . In addition to the mix tapes, clothing such as T-shirts, jackets and hoodies are also sold. The name Godzilla Entertainment comes from Yukmouth's 2003 solo album Godzilla .

Godzilla Entertainment was founded by Yukmouth and is run by him together with his manager Kat Gaynor.
