The Snake River is an approximately 50 km long tributary of Nortonsund in the far west of Alaska .

The Snake River arises at the confluence of the North Fork Snake River and Goldbottom Creek in the southwest of the Seward Peninsula 22 km north of Nome . It flows in a southerly direction and only turns to the east in the coastal plain. After another 7.5 kilometers, it finally flows into Nortonsund at Nome. The river has numerous bends . This fact gave the river its name. At the mouth of the river is the port of Nome. The river drains an area of ​​approx. 340 km². The mean discharge 20 km above the mouth at the bridge of the Bob Blodgett Highway is 5.3 m³ / s. The highest runoffs usually occur in June during the snowmelt.
