Yukijirushi Nyūgyō KK ( Japanese 雪 印 乳業 株式会社 , Yukijirushi Nyūgyō kabushiki kaisha ; English Snow Brand Milk Products Co., Ltd. ) was a Japanese dairy company. It merged into Yukijirushi Megmilk on April 1, 2011 .

The company has been using the brand symbol, the blue outline of a snowflake on a white background, since 1926. Yukijirushi literally means “snow brand” and later became the company's name.

Yukijirushi Nyūgyō was founded in 1925 as yūgen sekinin hokkaidō seiraku hambai kumiai ( 有限 責任 北海道 製 酪 販 売 組合 , dt. "Society for dairy products trade Hokkaidō with limited liability"). By the 1930s, the company had started making butter, margarine and ice cream. In the Pacific War , the company was combined with other dairies and converted into a public company ( Hokkaidō rakunō kōsha ) before it was organized under private law again in 1947.
The Antitrust Act of 1947 ( 過度 経 済 力 集中 排除 法 , kado keizairyoku shuchū haijo hō , dt. "Law to Abolish Excessive Concentration of Economic Power "), with the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers (SCAP) Douglas MacArthur and the cabinet Katayama the great Industrial conglomerates, Zaibatsu , also affected the Hokkaidō rakunō . Yukijirushi Nyūgyō was reorganized as a stock corporation, and the butter production was spun off as Hokkaidō Butter KK . In 1958 the two companies merged again - Hokkaidō butter had meanwhile become Clover Nyūgō , and the law had been abolished in 1955. In 1960 the company's headquarters in Tokyo were completed.
In June 2000, Yukijirushi Nyūgyō was responsible for a major food scandal in the Kansai region : over 13,000 people fell ill after consuming dairy products contaminated with several types of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus . As a result, sales fell by 77% and sales of milk even fell by 87%. The cause of the contamination was a power failure, the police are investigating negligence against the company management.
As a result of the milk scandal of 2000, the milk business was merged into the Nippon Milk Community KK and outsourced in 2003 . The company operates under the Megmilk brand . At the beginning of 2009, the reunification in a joint holding company was announced. In 2011 the final merger to form Yukijirushi Megmilk KK ( 雪 印 メ グ ミ ル ク 株式会社 , English Megmilk Snow Brand Co., Ltd. ) took place.
Another food scandal in 2002 about systematically incorrectly declared meat led to the liquidation of the subsidiary Yukijirushi Shokuhin ( 雪 印 食品 , Snow Brand Foods Co. ).

Sports sponsor
The dairy industry is heavily concentrated in Hokkaidō, and Yukijirushi Nyūgyō maintains its own Nordic skiing team as a winter sports sponsor , which includes ski jumpers Takanobu Okabe , Yūta Watase and Yukio Sakano in the 2009/2010 season . Head coach ( kantoku ) of the team is Hiroya Saitō , coach Masahiko Harada .
From 1979 on, the company also had an ice hockey team, later the Sapporo Polaris , which was given up in the wake of the 2001 milk scandal.
