Société Anonyme de la Raffinerie des Antilles
The La Société Anonyme de la Raffinerie des Antilles ( SARA ) refinery is a public limited company and owns a refinery in Martinique and fuel storage facilities in Guadeloupe and French Guiana .
Description of the refinery
The refinery is located in the municipality of Le Lamentin in Martinique . After expansions and modernizations, SARA refines around 820,000 tons of crude oil annually, which comes mainly from Venezuela but also from the North Sea and the Persian Gulf . SARA uses this to refine around 1% of the fuels refined in France (86.4 million tons ).
The refinery is one of the most important industrial companies in Martinique, employing 260 people and about another 300 people in subcontracting .
