(1985)

Soda Stereo is the debut album by Argentine trio Soda Stereo . The album went platinum in Argentina and paved the way for the rock band for their career. In contrast to her later works with mystical lyrics, the undertone of the first album is ironic, which is not only noticeable in the lines of text, but also in the song names (“Why can't I be from the jet set?”). This attitude reflects the situation in the country at the time when, after the end of the dictatorship and the war on the Malwinen, there was a spirit of optimism and the Argentine New Wave took off.

history

After guitarist Gustavo Cerati and bassist Zeta Bosio met at university, they decided to start a band with drummer Charly Alberti. They had already made a name for themselves in the underground with Soda Stereo and in 1985 they had the opportunity to record their first album on Sony Music . This was produced by the lead singer of the Argentine new wave group Virus. The end product was not what the band had imagined. Pop sounds predominated and the intended rock sound was turned down in the studio. The stereo tour ran from September 7, 1984 to August 31, 1985. There were a total of 42 concerts.
