Software School Switzerland

The Software School Switzerland (SWS) is part of the Bern University of Applied Sciences , Technology and Computer Science . It includes all training programs in computer science and IT .

history

The SWS was founded in 1979 by the federal government to promote IT training in Switzerland. Triggered by considerations and demands from the ETH and important representatives of industry, a federal funding program (impulse program) was launched by the Federal Department of Economic Affairs. The first courses were full-time studies that were carried out until the mid-1990s. With the changed requirements for professional training, nowadays only part-time courses are carried out.

Alignment

The SWS serves regional and national industry and business with a wide range of advanced training courses for IT employees. The courses are aimed at computer scientists, business data processing, engineers and other graduates of a university , as well as "Sur dossier" higher graduates specialized schools in computer science and technology. The courses of study are Bologna-compliant and designed according to European ECTS standards, the Master of Advanced Studies in Information Technology is federally recognized.

Job profiles

The specializations according to the Plan-Build-Run-Enable-Manage scheme

All courses are aligned with job profiles and adopt the concepts of the European e-Competence Framework for the recognition of professional achievements. The courses in the master’s and diploma programs focus on six job profiles and six specializations :

  • Business engineering / business analysis
  • Business intelligence
  • Enterprise application development
  • Networking and Security
  • Software architecture
  • Software development

The life cycle of IT systems can be represented according to the Plan-Build-Run-Enable-Manage scheme, and thus of course also the focus in the training objectives of the SWS courses.

  • Certificate of Advanced Studies in Information Technology (CAS modules)
  • Diploma of Advanced Studies in Information Technology (DAS-IT)
  • Master of Advanced Studies in Information Technology (MAS-IT)

CAS modules are both independent courses and elementary components of DAS-IT and MAS-IT.

organization

The courses are part-time. The MAS-IT usually lasts 5 semesters , the DAS 3 semesters and the CAS 1 semester. All courses are based on the KFH guidelines in terms of scope and requirements .

Cooperations

Within the Bern University of Applied Sciences, there is cooperation with the IT department, various institutes, in particular ICT-based management, the economics department and the electrical and communication technology department. A large number of the lecturers work part-time and work in specialist and management positions in companies and SMEs. There are also training projects with international engineering and IT companies.
