Sokol Beqiri

Sokol Beqiri (* 1964 in Peć , Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar graphic artist , video , performance and installation artist .

life and work

Sokol Beqiri studied graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Prishtina and continued his studies for two years with Agim Çavdarbasha , Nysret Salihamixhiqi (1931–2011) and Zoran Jovanović at the University of Ljubljana .

Beqiri is mainly concerned with the Yugoslav Wars . He uses various artistic media. Grand Bazaar , (1999) is a performance, Milka (2000) is a video and Kur engjëjt vonohen / When Angels Are Late , (2001) is an installation. Fundi i ekspresionizmit: pikturuar nga një i çmendur / The End of Expressionism: Painted by a Madman (2001), deals with the genre of war documentation in the form of readymades .

Since 1987 Sokol Beqiri has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the Biennial of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana, the Biennale de Cetinje , Montenegro, the Locarno Festival (2003), Blood & Honey: Future is in the Balkans (Vienna 2003): curator Harald Szeemann and documenta 14 in Kassel.
