Energy kiosk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An energy kiosk (sometimes also known as a solar kiosk) is a business model for selling energy, which is mainly practiced in developing countries . All over Africa there are already hundreds of entrepreneurs who operate charging stations using solar energy or fossil fuels according to this principle.

practice

Mostly, energy kiosks can be found in rural areas without sufficient electricity supply . The approach of energy kiosks is to provide a system that is usually unaffordable for individuals, such as a small solar system or fossil-fueled generators, centrally for a village and thus enable access to small energy services such as charging mobile phones or batteries of various sizes for a small fee. Such kiosks exist partly as stationary solutions in existing buildings, partly as kiosks specially set up for this purpose, partly as mobile and mobile solutions with which the operators can adapt to changing market conditions. This means that people have access to electricity in remote, grid-connected areas for little money.

The energy company Thrive Energy Technologies Pvt. Founded by the Indian non-governmental organization Volunteers for Rural Health, Education, and Information Technology (THRIVE) . Ltd. (TET) has built 200 energy kiosks in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh as part of the One Child, One Light campaign . These each supply between 100 and 300 families with charged LED lights .

In 2010 the e.quinox project opened an energy kiosk in Rwanda . The project was awarded the name of the asteroid (14741) Teamequinox by the Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research Institute and the International Astronomical Union, as well as the Student Humanitarian Supreme Prize of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers .

In 2012, the Renew'N'able Malawi (RENAMA) project opened two energy kiosks in Malawi to supply the population with electricity based on the e.quinox model. The project was supported by the Scottish International Resources and Recycling Institute and funded by the Scottish Government Malawi Development Program .
