Matthias Hornschuh

Matthias Hornschuh (born October 8, 1968 in Solingen ) is a German film composer .

Life

Matthias Hornschuh received classical music training for violin , piano , singing , theory and ear training and began studying violin at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold while he was still in school, which he gave up in favor of a career as a rock guitarist. He then completed a degree in musicology , phonetics and linguistics at the University of Cologne in 2000 with a master's thesis in music psychology on "Functions and Effects of Music in a Cinematic Context".

Publications as a freelance journalist and publicist . Lectures and workshops at universities and colleges, teaching assignments for media music at the University of Hildesheim , the Popakademie Mannheim, the University of Siegen , the University of Ansbach , the Macromedia University Cologne , the mibeg Institute Media Cologne. Technical articles and publications in the field of theory and practice of film music, musicological film research, audio branding (“acoustic branding”), several articles for the lexicon of film music .

In 2004 Matthias Hornschuh founded the professional association for media music mediamusic e. V. based in Cologne and has been its chairman since then, with a brief interruption. He is also one of the founders of the European Forum for Media Music SoundTrack Cologne and was program director from 2004 to December 2017. In this role, Hornschuh played a key role in the conception and moderation of the German Film Music Day GERMAN FILM MUSIC at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013 and in the SoundTrack_Cologne lectures at the 2009 Berlinale . In May 2018 Matthias Hornschuh was elected to the GEMA Supervisory Board.

Since 2003 Matthias Hornschuh has been working full-time as a freelance composer for film, radio drama , theater , and acoustic art.
