The Cestas solar park is an open - air photovoltaic system in the French community of Cestas near Bordeaux , operated by the renewable energy company Neoen . When it was commissioned in October 2015, the system was the largest solar park in Europe. The facility was officially inaugurated at the beginning of December, during the UN climate conference in Paris in 2015 .

In total, almost a million solar modules with an output of 300 MW under standard test conditions were installed on an area of approx. 250 ha . The annual standard energy capacity planned for 2016 is 350  GWh [obsolete]. This corresponds roughly to the annual electricity consumption of a city with 300,000 inhabitants. The modules are not aligned to the south, but to the east and west. This orientation enables a closer elevation and thus a factor of 3 to 4 higher area yields than with south orientation. In addition, the modules produce more energy in the morning and evening hours, which is more useful for the grid.

The construction costs amounted to 360 million euros. The operator receives a feed- in tariff of 10.5 ct / kWh over 20 years, which is lower than the electricity production costs of the Flamanville 3 nuclear power plant under construction at 11.4 ct / kWh.
