The Kamuthi solar park , also known in part as the Tamil Nadu solar park , is an open-air photovoltaic system near the Indian city of Kamuthi in the state of Tamil Nadu . The installed capacity is 648  MW , making the system the most powerful solar park in the world when it was commissioned. This position was previously held by the US-based solar park Solar Star with 579 MWp. The annual standard working capacity corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of around 150,000 households.

The plant was built on an area of approx. 10 km² and the construction time was eight months. Around 2.5 million individual solar modules were installed . A robot-controlled cleaning system was also built to remove dirt from the modules. The construction costs of the solar park amounted to the equivalent of approx. 679 million US dollars. The connection to the Indian power grid is via five individual substations that went into operation in mid-2016. Commissioning took place in September 2016.
