Solar Star is a solar farm near Rosamond, California owned by BHE Renewables . With an output of 579 MW p , it was the most powerful ground-mounted photovoltaic system in the world when it was commissioned in June 2015. In November 2016, he lost this record to the Indian solar park Tamil Nadu with 648 MW.
A total of around 1.7 million solar modules with cells made of monocrystalline silicon from the manufacturer SunPower were installed, which are uniaxially tracked to the movement of the sun to increase yield . The electrical energy is taken from the energy supply company Southern California Edison . The total area of the facility, which was built within two years, is around 13 km².
The plant was built by Mortenson Construction .
The power plant is expected to supply around 255,000 US households with electricity each year.
