The soldier amazon ( Amazona mercenaria ) is a species of parrot from the subfamily of the New World parrots . The basic color of the plumage of this amazon species, which is 34 centimeters tall and weighs around 340 grams, is green. The red wing mirror, the yellow to yellow-orange wing tips and the red banding on the outer tail feathers are different. The beak, like the featherless eye ring, is gray. The iris is orange and the feet are green-gray.

The soldier amazon occurs in a narrow strip from Colombia and the northwest from Venezuela via Ecuador to Peru and northern Bolivia . It lives within this distribution area preferentially in mountain rainforests and occurs predominantly at altitudes of 1,500 to 3,000 meters. Up to now there is only sporadic information about the population of this amazon species. The species is generally not considered endangered.
