Soldier Hollow (born February 25, 2000) is an English thoroughbred horse and was one of the most consistent and toughest racehorses of the 2000s in Germany.
ancestry
The stallion is by the British stallion In the Wings , who won the Grand Prix de Saint Cloud ( Group I ), the Coronation Cup (Group I) and the Breeders' Cup Turf (Group I), among others . In the Wings is also the father of outstanding racehorses such as Adlerflug , Singspiel Winged Love , Mamool and Central Park , and comes from the record sire Sadler's Wells. Soldier Hollow's mother is Island Race , daughter of the high-class Meilers Common Grounds . Soldier Hollow's fourth mother is the great racing and breeding mare Lisadell (Forli). Her right sister Special can also be found in Soldier Hollow's father line, because she is the second mother of Sadler's Wells. So Soldier Hollow comes from the same dam line.
Racing career
The stallion's racing career began in 2002 at the age of two on the Baden-Baden horse racing track in the price of the Rastatt district over 1500 m. He won this at the green table because he only crossed the line in second place, but the winner was downgraded to second place because he had obstructed Soldier Hollow. In the same year he won the junior price , a list race over 1600 m, and defeated the later derby winner Dai Jin . In the price of the winter favorite (Group III) he landed in fourth place.
At the age of three, he was only able to start twice due to illness. At the first start he won the Dr. Busch Memorial (Group III) over 1700 m. He then came fourth in the Mehl-Mülhens race (Group II).
In his first three races in 2004, Soldier Hollow couldn't convince. After a second place in La Coupe (Group III) in Longchamp, he found his way back to great form. He joined a winning streak, consisting of the Lotto Hessen Cup (Group III), the Spreti race (Group III), the Merrill Lynch Euro Cup (Group II) and the Premio Roma , which meant his first Group I victory . In the Hong Kong Cup in December he had no chance and was only eleventh. Nevertheless, after that year he was voted German horse of the year .
After a fifth place in Italy in May 2005, he competed in the Hansa Prize (Group II) over 2200 m in Hamburg - it was one of the few starts at distances above 2000 m. Although he could just win this race, he was downgraded to second place. He then won the Great Dallmayr Prize (Group I) in Munich over 2000 m. After two second places in major German group races, he was able to repeat his previous year's victory in the Premio Roma (Group I).
2006 started Soldier Hollow with fifth place in a build-up race. This was followed by two second places in the Premio Presidente Della Repubblica (Group I) and in the pferdewetten.de Trophy (Group II) over 1600 m. In his subsequent start in the Arlington Million (Group I) he finished third behind the two cracks The Tin Man and Cacique and was ahead of excellent horses such as Ace, Better Talk Now and Phoenix Reach. This was followed by a victory in the Prix Dollar (Group II) and a final fourth place in the Premio Roma.
2007 was the last racing season of the stallion, but even at the age of seven he had lost none of his class. After two good placements in European group races, he was able to win the Grand Prix of Economy (Group III) and again the Grand Dallmayr Prize (Group I). He ended his racing career with a second place in the Darley-Oettingen race (group II).
Soldier Hollow contested 31 races in six racing years, won 12, of which 10 were group races. Over many racing times he showed high-class performances - from the age of three to seven he was able to win at least one group race every year. Among his victories were four wins in Group I races.
Sire career
Soldier Hollow began his career as a stallion at the age of eight. It was put forward Röttgen at stud, where he initially a stud fee was offered to 6,500 €. Soldier Hollow was very successful in Germany with his first, very small years, because his son Pastorius , who is now a stallion himself, won the German Derby (Group I) over 2400 m, the great Dallmayr Prize (Group I) and the following Year as the first German horse the Prix Ganay (Group I) over 2100 m. In 2017 Soldier Hollow was available at the Auenquelle stud for a stud fee of € 25,000.
In May 2017, his son Dschingis Secret , third in the 2016 derby, won the 82nd Gerling Prize (Group II) with a lead of six lengths. Dschingis Secret received a GAG of 98.5 kg for this performance.
