Pastorius (born March 13, 2009 ) is an English thoroughbred horse . The bay stallion was bred out of Princess Li by Soldier Hollow at the Union Stud in Eitorf .

Pastorius is the best offspring of the first crop of his father Soldier Hollow, who after a long and successful racing career only began his stallion career at the age of 8. His mother, Princess Li, bred by Wolfgang Porsche and his wife at the time, Susanne , had already produced an excellent racing horse in the one year older gelding Point Blank.

Pastorius' racing career is strikingly similar to Lando's . Like him, he was an excellent two-year-old and won, among other things, the Duke of Ratibor race in Krefeld, one of the most important races for two-year-old horses. Like Lando, at the age of three he was not able to place a single place in the derby qualification tests and competed in the most important German race with Terry Hellier in the saddle as a blatant 321: 10 outsider. After the worst starting box 14 was drawn, his owner even toyed with the idea of withdrawing him from the start. In the race itself, Pastorius skilfully ran in the slipstream of the huge favorite Novellist for a long time . While the latter then fought a bitter duel with Girolamo in the middle of the home straight , Terry Hellier directed his horse on the outside almost unnoticed past the two duelists. Pastorius then confirmed the surprise win at the Derby 4 weeks later at the Grand Dallmayr Prize (Group I) on the racetrack in Munich-Riem with a superior 8 length win over last year's winner Durban Thunder . At the excellent Baden Grand Prix (Group I) he took a good third place, just one length behind the two mares Danedream and Ovambo Queen, ahead of the next two in the Derby, Novellist and Girolamo. Pastorius had finally established himself as a worthy Derby winner. Next came a victory at the Preis der Deutschen Einheit (Group III) in Hoppegarten and finally he rounded off the season with a fourth place in the top-class Champion Stakes in Ascot.

At the age of four, Pastorius started the season impressively with a victory at the Prix Ganay (Group I) in France, defeating the winner of the French. Derbies. He is the first ever German winner in this race. The Prix Ganay takes place on the same racetrack as the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and is therefore the ideal start to the season for Arc aspirants. After his brilliant victory, Pastorius also got a nomination for this mega-race in October. At the beginning of May Pastorius was the favorite at the highly endowed Singapore Airlines International Cup , but disappointed there with a penultimate 12th place as well as at his appearance at the Eclipse Stakes in England in early July. Pastorius also resembles the great Lando in the variability of his performance. It is now becoming increasingly clear that Pastorius, like Lando, belongs to a very strong Derby class, because the next-placed horses in the Derby 2012, Novellist and Girolamo have also achieved three-year Group I victories and confirmed their class in 2013 with further group victories. The top three winners of the German Derby in 2012 were the only three-year-old horses in Europe to achieve Group I victories against older horses.

On August 12, 2013, Pastorius contracted a fissure on his right foreleg during training. His owner then decided to take him out of the sport. Pastorius has been working as a stallion at Gestüt Fährhof since 2014 for a stud fee of 6500 €.
