Solomon Island is an island in Prydz Bay on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of Princess Elisabeth Land in East Antarctica . It is the eastern and largest of two islands (the other is Jesson Island ) around 1.25 km northeast of Donovan Promontory in the Larsemann Hills area .
The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named it in 1988 after David Solomon, commanding officer of a DUKW of the Australian Army for the landing of a crew of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions on Jesson Island in February 1958.
