Solwezi is the capital of the north-western province in Zambia , but is in fact still part of the Copperbelt . It has 65,000 inhabitants and is 1200 meters above sea level. It is the seat of the administration of the district of the same name with 203,797 inhabitants (2000 census).

economy

The most important economic sector in Solwezi is the copper production of Kansanshi Mining Plc. 14 kilometers from the city in Kansanshi . Solwezi is now considered poor. The crisis in copper prices on the world market in the 1990s left deep marks on the infrastructure, job offers and construction activity. The vast majority of the population lives in informal settlements in front of the city without electricity or water supply. The degree of connection is around 40 percent. Subsistence farming is widespread.

Solwezi is on the T5 trunk road and has a 1,500 meter long runway.

Utilities

There are primary and secondary schools and hospitals in the village.

tourism

The city center consists of two streets where shops have settled. There is St. Daniels Cathedral, built in 1959. Five kilometers from the city center, near the Kifubwa River, is the Kifubwa Rock, on which prehistoric rock paintings can be found.
