Mufumbwe , also Chizera , is a place with 6,155 inhabitants (2006 estimate) in the northwest province of Zambia 850 kilometers northwest of Lusaka and 225 kilometers west of Solwezi . It is 1069 meters above sea level and is the seat of the administration of the district of the same name with 71,238 inhabitants (2000 census). history

Mufumbwe belonged to the district of Kasempa , 37 kilometers away, for a long time , which caused some problems after the separation. A hospital, doctors and banks are missing here. There is a primary school but no secondary school yet. The entire district depends on Kasempa. There are land mines in Mufumbwe. They were buried from 1970 for reasons of "border protection" and can still explode.

economy

Mufumbwe is a district in which boreholes, i.e. the most basic form of drinking water supply, are the focus. The supply of houses per family is the lowest in all of Zambia. Signs of prosperity here include the herd of cattle and, to a more limited extent, the size of the arable land. That says nothing about the actual nutritional basis, which mainly consists of game, corn, cassava , honey and fish. The harvest yields vary greatly, depending on the rainy season between 2,253 and 5,140 tons for maize.

Infrastructure

The streets in the district are sandy tracks. The district has a lot of Miombo forest .

Social

The dominant tribe are the Kaonde.
