Kreuzberg summer pool
The Sommerbad Kreuzberg (colloquially usually called Prinzenbad ) is an outdoor pool in the Berlin district of Kreuzberg . It is located on Prinzenstraße within sight of the high station of the same name on the U1 line . The summer pool belongs to the Berliner Bäder-Betriebe , an institution under public law .
history
The bath was built on the site of the former English gas works and opened on May 16, 1956. In the winter of 1978/1979 a high concentration of pollutants was found in the soil , which made it necessary to remediate. The state of Berlin had to spend over 30 million marks (adjusted for purchasing power in today's currency: around 34.8 million euros) to be able to open the area up to the public again. In 1984 the entire system was renovated for around 15 million marks. The buildings and swimming pools were rebuilt and the diving boards removed.
In July 2010 there was a mass brawl one evening in which around 60 young people were involved. The swimming pool, in which there were still around 5,000 bathers at the time, was then cleared by the police.
In the summer of 2018, the Prinzenbads had 330,000 bathers.
Furnishing
The outdoor pool has two swimming pools measuring 50 m × 21 m and 50 m × 16 m, which are between 1.90 m and 3.55 m deep. There is also a non-swimmer pool with an area of 1600 m² and 0.45 m to 1.40 m depth. A paddling pool and a children's playground with another water paddling pool complete the offer. Two changing rooms with shower and toilet have been set up for people with disabilities . A wheelchair access to the edge of the pool is possible; a staircase was also installed in the non-swimmer pool . There are parking spaces next to the entrance. There is also a nudist area.
