The Sông Lam Nghệ An Football Club is a football club from Vinh , Vietnam . The club plays in the highest league in the country, the V.League 1 . The club plays its home games in the Vinh stadium. The association was founded in 1979 as Sông Lam Nghệ Tĩnh. After the province of Nghệ Tĩnh was divided into Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh in 1992 , the association was renamed to Sông Lam Nghệ An. The club achieved its greatest success at the beginning of the new millennium, when it was able to become champions twice and win the Vietnamese Cup once.
