Sonic Colors is a Jump 'n' Run video game, which of Sonic Team developed by Sega in November 2010 for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS was released.

Game content

The game is a combination of 2D and 3D game mechanics, which changes during the level. The action takes place in a space amusement park by Dr. Eggman , who claims to be turning his back on the crimes of the past. In reality, he intends to attract aliens, the so-called Wisps, in order to rob them of their powers and to put his plan to achieve world domination into practice again. Sonic finds out about this and sets out to thwart this plan. There are a total of six worlds, each with six acts and a boss fight. On the Wii , Sonic Colors can be played with the Wii Remote, Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Classic Controller (Pro) or Nintendo GameCube controller held horizontally .

Game mechanics

The game mechanics are similar to those of Sonic Unleashed, but there are also quiet spots where a little skill is required. On the Nintendo DS everything is in 2D view and thus resembles a continuation of the Sonic Rush series. Only Sonic can be played in Sonic Colors. This can make use of the Wisp forces, which is also necessary in many places in order to progress. The Wisps are trapped in capsules, if you destroy them, they transfer their powers to Sonic. Not all Wisps are initially available, they are all unlocked in the course of the game. Before that, their capsules are empty.

The wisps and their effects

  • The white Wisps are the most common, they fill Sonic's turbo display, which gradually empties when the turbo is used.
  • The yellow wisps transform Sonic into a drill that can dig through loose soil.
  • The turquoise wisps transform Sonic into a laser that ricochets off walls, eliminating anything in his way. It is particularly effective to use it with prisms and optical cables.
  • The orange wisps transform Sonic into a rocket that shoots straight up.
  • Blue Wisps transform Sonic into a blue cube. As this, Sonic is invulnerable. In addition, blue wisps transform blue rings into blocks and vice versa. This process can be repeated until the display has expired.
  • Green wisps transform Sonic into a plane that can hover briefly up and follow ring paths.
  • Pink-colored wisps transform Sonic into a pink gear, which sticks to walls and ceilings and can also roll along them.
  • With the so-called Nega-Wisps, the appearance and the effect depend on the version of the game. In the Wii version, they transform Sonic into a kind of shark mouth, which eats its way through obstacles, some of which can only be destroyed in this way. In the DS version, they transform Sonic into a monster that sucks up obstacles, enemies and rings.
  • Red wisps transform Sonic into a red flame, which brings additional turbo with it. In addition, Sonic, as a flame, can also do a multiple jump.

The blue, green and pink wisps are only available on the Wii, the red wisps only on the DS.

Multiplayer

The main game itself has no multiplayer. But there is a "Sonic Simulator" where you can play against each other in pairs. Wisp forces can also be combined and have new effects.
