development

Under the project name Needlemouse , Sega worked for a long time on a direct successor to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 , which has been available since October 2010. The game is again based on the classic platform levels in 2D style.

After a total of 16 years, an official sequel to the first four games of the Sonic-the-Hedgehog mother-series ( Sonic the Hedgehog , Sonic the Hedgehog 2 , Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles ) was released. The plot does not deviate from the fact that Dr. Robotnik wants to subdue the world. The style has remained true to the previous 2D. Level and character design are more three-dimensional and high-resolution. The simple controls have been retained. Sonic now also has the "Homing Attack" ability. The physics has been completely revised. However, this has several weaknesses. Levels and opponents are completely new from their predecessors ("Recycle"). Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 had the greatest influence . Therefore, Episode 1 is a new edition of the old games and more of a remake than an independent new title with its own story.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 was originally supposed to be released in summer 2010, but the release date has been postponed due to fine-tuning of the gameplay.
