The sun tetra ( Hyphessobrycon eos ) is a tropical freshwater fish from the order of the tetra-like species . It comes from western Guiana in northern South America. Its preferred habitat is the banks of the rivers.
features
The species reaches a maximum length of 4.5 cm and is similar to the taillight tetra ( Hemigrammus ocellifer ) found in the same habitat , but differs from this species in the unscaled base of the caudal fin (main difference between Hemigrammus and Hyphessobrycon ). The basic color of the sun tetra is olive green to brownish, with the scales on the upper half of the body having a dark edge and the back side being darker overall. The shoulder patch that is present in many tetra immediately behind the gill cover is only hinted at in the sun tetra. The longitudinal ligament on the flanks is narrow and widens to a large, black spot on the tail stalk. The whole body and especially the gill cover is covered with tiny black dots. The throat is yellow. The caudal fin is bright yellow to orange in color, the anal fin is reddish and the base of the dorsal fin is yellow. The latter is supported by eleven fin rays, the longer anal fin has 17 to 20. Sex differences are not known.
