Sonnit is a German new pop band from Braunschweig that has been active under this name since 2000.

history

The band was originally founded in 1996 under the name "Eat Her Eyes". As such, she came second in the MTV- initiated talent competition “brand: newcomer talent quest” in 2000 , thereby gaining a record deal with Sony . Shortly afterwards the company was finally renamed under the current band name "Sonnit". In June 2002 the first studio album called Popgun was released , which was produced by Roland Spremberg . In spring 2002, the band was support from which the neighboring city of Hannover originating known group Fury in the Slaughterhouse during the "Color Fury" tour. Between the summers of 2002 and 2003, the first single Heaven is Close was often used on the radio, so that it was represented in the Airplay Charts for three months (highest rating # 64). The accompanying video rotated for four weeks on the music channel VIVA . In the summer of 2003, the video for the single Get Your Mind Free , which was published in November, was created in cooperation with the environmental protection organization Greenpeace . As part of the occupation of a sawmill of a wood import company, attention was drawn to the lack of import restrictions for jungle wood. Since then, Get Your Mind Free has become the official anthem for Greenpeace in the fight against deforestation of the tropical rainforest and the band Ambassador Greenpeaces for this topic.

Despite various festival and television appearances in the years 2002 to 2004, their own Popgun tour in autumn 2002 and tour support for parts of the Germany appearances on the Simple Minds 2003 tour , the band has not yet made a commercial breakthrough.

In the summer of 2004, Holger Jung and Ralf Rathjen left the band. Since then there has been a musical reorientation towards Arthouse Pop. Since the end of 2003 the band has been working on their second album entitled Sonnit , which was completed in autumn 2007. The album was released in May 2008 under their own label Dead Drummer Records and since then the band can be seen live again.
