Sonny Alade Joiner
Sonny Alade Joiner (* in the 20th century) is a Gambian basketball player . He was the first Gambier to play college basketball in the United States. In addition, the 6'9 '' tall player has been the Gambia captain many times and the Gambia's top basketball player after Tijan Massaneh Ceesay .
Life
The then director of the Gambia Peace Corps , Richard Wanush, was his first basketball coach. He was later looked after by the Senegalese coach Alioune Diop . In 1972 he won the first gold medal with the Gambian national basketball team in Dakar . He was trained by Dean Sempart at Lewis & Clark College in Portland (Oregon) , United States . In 1976 he came back to The Gambia and played for the Saints basketball team, which remained unbeaten for three years in a row in basketball competitions at school and national level. He received support from Father Joseph Gough, the then director of Saint Augustine's High School.

- 2010: After Joiner, the Gough Sports Foundation inaugurated the “Sonny Alade Joiner Basketball / Volleyball courts” on the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda .
