Johann Christoph House
Johann Christoph Haus (baptized January 28, 1652 in Stein AG ; † September 12, 1725 in Arlesheim ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Basel .
Life
He was the son of Johann Jakob Haus, innkeeper in Stein, and his wife Margaretha Schnebelin. His younger brother Johann Baptist Haus was also Auxiliary Bishop in Basel. Johann Christoph Haus studied from 1669 to 1673 in Freiburg im Breisgau and from 1673 to 1675 at the Collegium Urbanum in Rome, where he was awarded a Dr. theol. received his doctorate . He became an Apostolic Protonotary and was ordained a priest on February 16, 1676 . From 1683 to 1685 he was an official of the diocese of Basel. From 1703 to 1716 he was vicar general of the diocese of Basel.
Pope Clement XI. appointed him on January 26, 1705 titular bishop of Domitiopolis and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Basel. He was ordained bishop on February 22nd of the same year by the Bishop of Basel Wilhelm Jakob Rinck von Baldenstein .
In 1714 he represented the interests of the Bishop of Basel in the negotiations on the Peace of Baden .
