Johann Baptist House

Johann Baptist Haus (baptized July 31, 1672 in Stein (AG) ; † October 29, 1745 in Arlesheim ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic clergyman and auxiliary bishop in Basel .

Life

He was the son of Johann Jakob Haus, innkeeper in Stein, and his wife Margaretha Schnebelin. His older brother Johann Christoph Haus was also auxiliary bishop in Basel.

Johann Baptist Haus studied at the Collegium Urbanum in Rome, where he was awarded a Dr. phil. and Dr. theol. received his doctorate . On June 16, 1696 he was ordained a priest . From 1716 to 1745 he was vicar general , from 1717 to 1741 he was also official of the diocese of Basel.

Pope Innocent XIII appointed him on August 17, 1729 titular bishop of Messalum and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Basel. He was ordained bishop on September 18 of the same year by the Bishop of Basel Johann Konrad von Reinach-Hirtzbach ; Co-consecrators were Bishop Johann Baptist von Reinach-Hirtzbach , Coadjutor Bishop of Basel, and Archbishop Jean Claude Sommier .
