Sonny Red

Sonny Red (Kyner) (* 17th December 1932 in Detroit as a junior Sylvester Kyner ; † 20th March 1981 ) was an American alto saxophonist of hard bop .

Live and act

Sonny Red Kyner initially played the C melody saxophone , but switched to the alto saxophone in 1949. From 1949 to 1952 he worked with Barry Harris , was tenor saxophonist with Art Blakey and Frank Rosolino in 1954, he came to New York in 1957 and has worked as a freelance musician ever since. He made records with Clifford Jordan , Paul Quinichette , Yusef Lateef , Tommy Flanagan / Curtis Fuller and under his own name.
