Sophia Elisabeth Brenner

Sophia Elisabeth Brenner (born April 29, 1659 in Stockholm , † September 14, 1730 there ) was a Swedish writer of German descent.

Live and act

Sophie Brenner was the daughter of the German sculptor (or: merchant) Weber and is considered the first important Swedish writer. She was married to the Swedish miniature painter Elias Brenner .

For the conditions at the time, Brenner had unusual language skills. She mastered German, French, Italian, Latin and Swedish to such an extent that she also wrote poetry in these different languages. Her poetic work consisted primarily of elaborate and often moralizing occasional poems of a cultivated style; however, some of her poems also show real feeling. Sophia Brenner advocated equal rights for women in the intellectual field.
