Sophia Jaffé

Sophia Jaffé (born July 15, 1980 in Berlin ) is a German violinist.

Life

Born into a family of musicians in Berlin, Sophia Jaffé performed in public for the first time at the age of seven. Since then she has received a number of national and international awards, including a. at the 5th Leopold Mozart International Violin Competition in Augsburg in 2003 , at the 2004 Geneva Music Competition, the prize of the German Music Competition and 3rd prize at the Reine Elisabeth Concours in Brussels 2005.

As a soloist and chamber musician, she plays at festivals such as the Leipzig Bach Festival , Rheingau Music Festival , Moravian Autumn Festival Brno / Czech Republic, Flâneries Musicales de Reims / France. Further concert tours have taken her to Chile, Italy, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the USA. In the 2008/2009 season, Sophia Jaffé made her debut in London's Cadogan Hall, in Jerusalem, in Prague's Rudolfinum and in Shenzhen (China).

She works with numerous orchestras and conductors in Germany and Europe, including the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Marek Janowski , the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra under Dennis Russell Davies , the Orchester National de Belgique under Gilbert Varga , the Konzerthausorchester Berlin under Lothar Zagrosek , and the Munich Chamber Orchestra under Christoph Poppen and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Prague under Vladimir Valek.

Her violin concert repertoire currently includes around 45 works from the baroque to the 20th century. Numerous live recordings and radio productions by u. a. Deutschlandradio, SWR 3, the Czech Radio and Television Prague document their game. In the 2009/2010 season, Sophia Jaffé plays Chatschaturjan's violin concerto with the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg , Shostakovich's Concerto No. 2 in the Wiener Konzerthaus under Dennis Russell Davis, Korngold's Concerto in Hanover and Berg's violin concerto with the Northwest German Philharmonic Recklinghausen.

Her musical education was shaped by Nora and Abraham Jaffé , Herman Krebbers and Stephan Picard , where she graduated from the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin in 2006 with a concert exam and honors . Since then she has been teaching there as a lecturer. Jaffé has been a professor at the Frankfurt University of Music since October 2011 .
