Sophie Dervaux

Sophie Dervaux (* 25. July 1991 in Paris as Sophie Dartigalongue ) is a French bassoonist .

Life

Sophie Dervaux has been principal bassoonist with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra since 2015 . From 2013 to 2015 she was principal bassoonist with the Berliner Philharmoniker . Her solo repertoire includes works by Vivaldi, Saint-Saens, Jolivet, Strauss, Mozart, Hummel, Haydn and Paganini.

At the beginning of her career, Sophie Dervaux played the guitar, then switched to the clarinet . With the help of this instrument she learned correct breathing, orchestral playing and phrasing of a wind instrument. From 2008 to 2011 she studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon with Carlo Colombo and Jean Pignoly. In 2011 Sophie Dervaux, at that time still under the name Sophie Dartigalongue, joined the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic as a scholarship holder, where she was taught by Daniele Damiano (bassoon) as well as Marion Reinhardt and Markus Weidmann (contrabassoon).

Her father is a mathematician and engineer , her mother a guitar teacher .

Awards

Sophie Dervaux has received several awards in her career. She received the following prizes, among others:

  • 2nd prize (audience prize) at the International ARD Music Competition 2013 in Munich (1st prize was not awarded.)
  • 1st prize winner at the Michal Spisak International Bassoon Competition 2012
  • 1st prize winner at the International Academic Oboe and Bassoon Competition Lodz 2011
  • 1st prize at the AudiMozart 2010 and the Carl-Maria von Weber bassoon competition in Breslau 2010
  • 2nd prize winner at the International Crusell Bassoon Competition 2011
