Élisabeth Françoise Sophie de Tardieu d'Esclavelles or Élisabeth Françoise Sophie Lalive de Bellegarde (* December 18, 1730 - January 28, 1813 ), through marriage to General César Louis Marie François Ange d'Houdetot from 1748 Countess of Houdetot (read: udetoh), was a salonier .

Live and act

Her parents were the Fermier général Louis Denis Lalive de Bellegarde and his wife Marie Thérèse Josèphe Prouveur. In addition to four sons, the marriage had two daughters: Marie Charlotte Françoise and Élisabeth Françoise Sophie.

She was among the literary celebrities of the 18th century, partly because of their long-standing connection to the poet Jean-François de Saint-Lambert , but even more by the relationship with Jean-Jacques Rousseau , of her in his Confessions ( French Confessions intends) with passion and owes many poetic suggestions to her influence.

Their relationship with Saint-Lambert began around 1760 and lasted until his death in 1803. During the last years they lived together on a country estate near Paris.

Equally distinguished by goodness of heart and spirit, she occasionally wrote small, subtle poetry that secretly circulated among her friends. She was the last to die from among the encyclopedists .
