Horst Jockusch

Horst Jockusch (born April 30, 1925 in Dresden ; † December 22, 2014 ) was a German artist and graphic designer .

Life

From 1951 Jockusch studied for five years at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (HfBK) with Professors Erich Fraaß , Hans Theo Richter and Max Schwimmer . He then worked as a freelancer in Dresden from 1956 to 1960, whereupon he was appointed to the HfBK as a lecturer in 1960 . Jockusch worked for the Dresden-based DEFA studio for animated films and designed animation films such as “The Emperor's New Clothes”, “Pinocchio's Adventure”, “Spuk im Schloß”, “Rumpelstilzchen” and Alarm im Puppet Theater. He has been retired since 1990.

He became known for his numerous graphics, especially woodcuts and linocuts as well as etchings , which depict various facets of life or public space.

He exhibited his works at both national and international exhibitions. The last time they were seen was in 2000 at a retrospective in the Dresden City Museum entitled “ City Pictures”.

Jokusch lived in Dresden until his death. He was married and had two children. He was buried on January 30, 2015 in the Heidefriedhof in Dresden.
