The Lott Festival is an annual music event that takes place in the field in the middle of the low mountain range of the Hunsrück east of the municipality of Raversbeuren .

history

The name "Lott" comes from a piece of land in the Moselle community of Enkirch , where the music event was held from 1977 to 1984. Around 600 visitors came to the first event, and in the next few years this number rose to almost 10,000. Following a lawsuit from local hunting tenants , the Higher Regional Court of Koblenz prohibited the Enkirch community from making the land on the Lott parcel available as a venue in 1985. As a result, attempts were made between 1985 and 1990 to revive the festival elsewhere. Since 1991 it has been taking place on a smaller scale in the district of Raversbeuren near Frankfurt-Hahn Airport . Since it has been firmly integrated into the course of the year since 1992, the number of visitors is growing again and has leveled off at around 8,000 people per year (as of 2017). However, the limits of the spatial capacity have been reached and there have been possible access restrictions since then. The security requirements that have become necessary since 2015 have also helped to push back the once familiar and open character a little.

The organizer is the association Lott-Gesellschaft, Association for the Promotion of Cultural Events eV The non-commercial association was founded in 1977 from the union of young people who wanted to give an area in the Mosel-Hunsrück region that was poor in youth culture at the time.

The members of the association, local citizens and construction workers work free of charge. Profits generated by the festival, as well as the proceeds from other events (concerts, readings, etc.) spread over the whole year, are donated to non-profit organizations . a. ShelterBox , Amnesty International , Govinda Development Aid , Target or the German Child Protection Association .

For the first time since the restart of the festival in Raversbeuren in 1991, the event was canceled in 2020. The reason was the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic , a viral disease, the spread of which was to be countered by official prohibition of major events of any kind.

Music / program

The music styles offered are rock , indie pop , folk punk , jazz , ska , punk and many others. The bands come from all over Europe, the USA and Japan, but local musicians also perform; the most famous performers include Skindred , Wallis Bird , Kapelle Petra , Crippled Black Phoenix , Therapy? , Blackmail , Polarkreis 18 , Tiger Lou , Hundreds , Bauchklang , Babylon Circus , Tab Two , Fink , The Brandos , Electric Eel Shock , Tito & Tarantula , Waltari (Band) , Bernd Begemann , Jupiter Jones , Nick Waterhouse , Götz Widmann , Hellsongs , And So I Watch You from Afar , Pothead , Mother Tongue , Stefan Stoppok , Color Haze and Panteón Rococó .

In addition to the music, an open stage (in the adjacent forest), workshops , poetry slams and activities for children (e.g. circus ) are offered.
