Mother Tongue is a Californian alternative rock band whose sound is reminiscent of the bluesy rock of the 1970s ( Jimi Hendrix , Led Zeppelin etc.), with influences from funk , soul and other musical styles.

history

Mother Tongue was founded in Austin ( Texas ) in 1990 and just a year later they moved to Los Angeles , where their energetic live performances in particular attracted many fans, including celebrities such as Ian Astbury ( The Cult ) and Trent Reznor ( Nine Inch Nails ) , gave.

After their debut ( Mother Tongue , 1994), which was valued in the scene , but which had little commercial success, the band split up in February 1996. This was followed by quarrels with the old label Sony, which later re-released the debut after the successful restart of the band without giving the band a share of the revenues.

In 2002 there was a reunion, but without the old drummer and under a different label. On their second longplayer Streetlight they find Chris Cano and Gabriel Roland replacing Geoff Haba, who left, but neither of them wants to take part in a tour because they feel obliged to other projects. Finally, the Australian Sasha Popovic is hired as the drummer, who also sits behind the drums on the third album, Ghost Note .

After several delays, the band recorded the album Follow the Trail with producer Noah Shain in autumn 2007 . The band had already written songs for an entire album in advance, but most of them were discarded in favor of new compositions.

After the release of a so-called “Fan Edition” of Streetlight / Ghost Note in the form of a double CD album, Mother Tongue went on a “In the Blood” tour in 2016 and worked again with the Noisolution label .
