Tab Two

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tab Two was a band founded in Ulm , which consisted of Hellmut Hattler ( electric bass ) and Joo Kraus ( trumpet ). The tab in the band name stands for "Trumpet and Bass". Furthermore, the name is a winking reminiscence of the Fab Four . Tab Two mainly combined acid jazz with hip-hop , trip-hop , drum and bass and other styles; the result is sometimes referred to as hip jazz .

The duo existed from 1987 to 1999 and were then considered the most successful duo in German jazz. Tab Two celebrated international success with the songs No Flagman Ahead (1995) and Belle Affaire (1996) and performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival as well as at the Roskilde Festival . Due to personal differences between Kraus and Hattler, the duo broke up around the turn of the millennium. Since 2011, the two musicians have been working together on the best-of album Two Thumbs Up , which was released on April 27, 2012. On the occasion of the release, Kraus and Hattler were again on stage together for several concerts between April and August 2012. According to the musicians, there will be no real reunion.
