Sophie Wegener

Sophie Wegener (* 1966 ) is a singer of German- French descent who specializes in the interpretation of bossa nova . She sings in Portuguese, French and English. Die Welt am Sonntag called her “Germany's number one bossa nova interpreter”.

Life

Wegener first learned the flute as a child and received piano and singing lessons from Erica Müller-Ginand. She studied in Paris, London and Berlin and took singing and music lessons in New York with Luciana Souza , Sheila Jordan , Judy Niemack , Kim Nazarian, Mark Murphy and Barry Harris, among others . In 1999 she founded the band Zona Sul , with whom she tours Europe and has released three CDs so far. She can also be heard on numerous compilations. Current and previous musicians in their band include Pedro Tagliani (guitar), Martin Scales (guitar), Tizian Jost (piano), Matthias Engelhardt (electric bass) and Hajo von Hadeln (drums).
