Coordinates: 42 ° 47 ′ S , 147 ° 34 ′ E The Sorell Municipality is a local administrative area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 583 km² and has about 14,500 inhabitants (2016).
Sorell is located in the southeast of the island about 22 kilometers east of the city center of the capital Hobart . The area comprises 20 hamlets and towns: Boomer Bay, Bream Creek, Carlton, Connellys Marsh, Copping, Dodges Ferry , Dunalley, Forcett, Kellevie, Lewisham, Marion Bay, Midway Point , Penna, Primrose Sands, Nugent, Orielton, Pawleena, Sorell , Wattle Hill and White Hills. The seat of the council is in the village of Sorell in the west of the LGA, where about 2900 inhabitants live (2016).

The Sorell Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Sorell is not divided into districts.
