Sorenson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sorenson (also Sorenson Video , Sorenson Video Quantizer or SVQ ) is a video codec and video format from Sorenson Media . The format is in older Apple - QuickTime - and Adobe - Flash video used files.

Sorenson was first released in 1998 along with QuickTime 3. With the release of the movie trailer of Star Wars - Episode I in 1999, the format was first widely used as part of the QuickTime 4 software.

The second version of Sorenson was released in March 1999 and contained only minor improvements, so that videos created with it remained compatible with earlier decoders. Sorenson Video 3 was released with QuickTime 5.0.2 in July 2001.

After Apple turned away from the Sorenson format by using the MPEG-4 standard, Sorenson Media licensed the latest version of its codec as Sorenson Spark (Sorenson H.263 ) to Macromedia and was released together with Macromedia Flash 6 / MX in March 2002 .
