Life

Brockmeier started playing the piano at the age of five. After a classic basic training, the first improvisations followed in 1971. Since then he has trained himself in the direction of jazz and rock / pop. He founded his first band in 1974. In 1978 he won the second, and then in 1979 first prize in the “ Jugend jazztcompetition . Brockmeier has been a professional musician since 1980.

Since then Brockmeier u. a. with Larry Coryell , Emily Remler , Carlo Mombelli , Wolfgang Lackerschmid , Mick Abrahams , Albie Donnelly , John C. Marshall , Ulla Meinecke , Silvia Droste , Helge Schneider , Lydie Auvray , Georg Ringsgwandl , Julian Dawson , Wolfgang Engstfeld , Reiner Winterschladen and Hartmut Kracht together.

He also toured with Supersession , Klaus Lage and Chris Farlowe . He was a founding member of the band Stoppok around the songwriter Stefan Stoppok and the band Mickey's Monkey Party of the drummer and singer Mickey Neher .

Together with Peter Eisold he founded the Timber Trio . He also worked as a lecturer, studio musician, ballet répétiteur and producer.

In 1985 Brockmeier retired for two years and began to work on developing his own style under the influence of ethnic music from India and Africa. The main result of these efforts was his solo CD Reflections and the project Brockmeier's World , in which he worked with instruments such as shakuhachi , hurdy-gurdy , surdu , berimbao , Indian harmonium and overtone singing . In the mid-1990s he founded a trio with Alexander Morsey (b - Münster) and Christian Thomé (dr - Cologne). Numerous original compositions arise from this work.

This music is a post-modern mixture of ethnic-energetic, meditative as well as jazz, blues and pop elements. Simple themes and ostinati are further developed and transformed into themselves, just like in the African tradition, but there is also the long-suffering and flowing Indian great arcs of tension as well as the improvisation of jazz. Meanwhile Brockmeier is now and again on stage with "pure" jazz projects.
