biography

Soul Jah Love grew up as a half-orphan in Harare and left home early. He has been suffering from diabetes mellitus since he was 7 years old ; repeated hospitalizations made him believe in God . He attended Mhofu Primary School, Prospect Primary School and then Lord Malvern High School, where he developed a keen interest in music. He married the Zimdancehall musician Bounty Lisa; they influenced each other in their musical careers.

Soul Jah Luv made his musical breakthrough in 2012 with the song Ndini uya uya . All Zimbabwean radio stations played the song, and it landed at the top of the Zimbabwean charts for a few weeks. He has also published successful music with Shinsoman . In 2013 he won two prizes at the Zim Dancehall Awards ("Best Collaboration" and "Best Upcoming Artist"). In 2014 he honored President Robert Mugabe with a song. In 2013, he was voted third best male dancehall artist. He became one of the few dancehall singers to play alongside a live band (the biggest to date after those of Oliver Mtukudzi and Alick Macheso ). In 2016 he was seriously injured in a car accident in Gweru on the way to a concert in Victoria Falls .

He made a major contribution (with his song Kuponda nhamo from 2015) to establishing Zimdancehall as a political outlet for the economically oppressed population of Zimbabwe.
