South Bedfordshire was a district in the county of Bedfordshire in England . The administrative seat was Dunstable ; other significant places were Barton-le-Clay , Caddington , Eaton Bray , Houghton Regis , Linslade and Leighton Buzzard .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of Borough Dunstable, Urban District Leighton-Linslade and Rural District Luton. On April 1, 2009, the district were combined with the neighboring District Mid Bedfordshire to form a new Unitary Authority Central Bedfordshire .
