South Shropshire was a district in the county of Shropshire in England . The administrative seat was the city of Ludlow . The district also included the places Bishop's Castle , Church Stretton , Cleobury Mortimer and Craven Arms .

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the Rural Districts Clun and Bishop's Castle and Ludlow. On April 1, 2009 it was dissolved due to a territorial and administrative reform and went on in the new Shropshire Unitary Authority .
