Sowwah Square on Maryah Island

Maryah Island ( Arabic المرية, DMG al-Marya , formerly Sowwah Arabic الصوة, DMG aṣ-Ṣūwa ) is located northeast of downtown Abu Dhabi , the capital of the United Arab Emirates .

The island is 105 hectares and lies between the current city center and Reem Island . Maryah is currently being developed into a new city center by the investment company Mubadala and is one of the largest construction projects in Abu Dhabi. At the end of the construction project, which consists of several phases, the island will have medical facilities, such as the Cleveland Clinic, in addition to office and residential high-rise buildings and leisure facilities .

Construction phase 1 should have been completed in 2010, the final completion is planned for 2014 [obsolete] . The center of the island is to be Sowwah Square , which will contain four office towers (two with 31 floors and two with 37 floors) in addition to the new Abu Dhabi stock exchange building.
