hospital

The Floridsdorfer Hospital was the first hospital in the Floridsdorf and Donaustadt districts on the other side of the Danube .

history

The history of the Floridsdorf Hospital goes back to the community schools for boys (Kahlgasse 8) and girls (Franklinstraße 45) built in 1907/1908, which were used for their original purpose until 1942.

In 1942 the two buildings were set up by the City of Vienna as an auxiliary hospital, but were confiscated by the Wehrmacht and used as a military hospital before operations began . After a bomb attack in November 1944, in which the buildings were partly destroyed or badly damaged, the military released the buildings.

Despite the severe damage, the City of Vienna followed its original plan to build an alternative hospital here, and put it into operation on April 5, 1945 under the direction of the surgeon, Doctor Wolfgang Riese. This hospital was particularly important for the residents of Floridsdorf and Donaustadt, as it was the only “Transdanubian” hospital in Vienna at the time and all Danube bridges were blown up during the Battle of Vienna with the exception of the Reichsbrücke .

On February 6, 1948, a new operating theater with state-of-the-art equipment was put into operation.

The laying of the foundation stone for the central wing, which was built between 1954 and 1958, took place on May 10, 1954 in the presence of Mayor Franz Jonas . At the same time, an extension was built in Franklinstrasse.

With the construction of the North Hospital, the hospital is to move completely into it. After the move, the hospital wing is to be converted into a nursing home.

statistics

In 2007 (2006) the hospital had 206 (214) beds and 564 (535) employees, who cared for 8,235 (8,242) inpatients and 25,012 (24,648) outpatients.
