The later spread of the doctrine ( Tib. Bstan pa phyi dar ) refers to the period in Tibetan history of the renewed evangelization of Tibet to Buddhism, after it was in decline under Tsenpo ( btsan po ) Lang Darma ( glang dar ma ).
The following Buddhist personalities are included in the period:
- Three wise men from Tibet (bod kyi mkhas pa mi gsum) from the 9th century, three Tibetan monks who escaped to Amdo
- Lume Tshälthrim Sherab (klu mes tshul khrims shes rab), a Buddhist revival
- Rinchen Sangpo (rin chen bzang po; 958-1055), great translator of Buddhist scriptures
- Drogmi Shakya Yeshe ('Brog mi Shakya Ye shes; 993-1074), Tibetan translator
- Khön Phupa Chökyi Gyelpo ('khon phu ba chos kyi rgyal po; 1069-1144); younger brother of Machik Shama (Ma gcig Zha ma, 1062-1149), famous master of Tantric Buddhism
